Michael’s Salumeria tops Rutherford Lions at home, in what turned into a nail biter of a game on a beautiful Thursday night (9-8).
12U Softball Michael’s Salumeria had an almost every inning lead change, coming out on top at 9-8 to improve to 5-0 for the season thus far.
In the top of the first Rutherford Lions scored 2 runs while Michael’s would score 3 times in the bottom, starting with a walk to Olivia De Ruvo who would later steal all the way home to score the first run for Michael’s. Alexa Gibbons singled and Madison Goff drew a walk in which both would eventually steal home to take a 3-2 lead.
In the top of the second the Lions would answer back to tie the game 3-3. At the bottom of the second Leah DiMase was hit by the pitcher and would steal 2nd base, 3rd, and Home to reclaim the lead, 4-3.
At the top of the third the Lions took the lead again 6-4. In the bottom of the third Michael’s would be retired with 1-2-3, ending the inning.

Going into the top of the fourth inning Alexa Longo (P) had a 1-2-3, retiring the side and keeping the game within reach, along with the defense of Dani Nicolette and Kaitlyn Stiefel throughout the game. In the bottom of the fourth Michael’s would regain the lead once again bringing the score to 7-6. Starting with a single by Alexa Gibbons which she would eventually come around to steal home as well. DiMase and Layla Lundholm both drew walks and would steal home as well.

In the top of the fifth Michael’s relinquished the lead once more to the Lions, bringing the score to 8-7 , but Michael’s then put an end to the inning with their 1st triple play of the season. Shifting to the bottom of the fifth, Nicolette drew a walk and would work her way around stealing 2nd & 3rd, later scoring on Longo’s double to tie the game at 8-8. Longo would then steal 2nd & 3rd also and score on Gibbons' single to get ahead to 9-8, finishing the fifth.

In the top of the sixth De Ruvo would come in to close out the inning relieving Longo who pitched 5 complete innings. De Ruvo secured the win for Michaels at the mound with the help of Longo (1B) and Stiefel (2B).

While Alexis Granata, Arianna Sinchi, and Sophia Scott all contributed to the win.
