Century 21 wins the 2022 Lyndhurst Little League Majors Division Championship!!!!!
After being walked off in game 2 of this incredible series, Century 21 came back and took game 3. Century paced the way all year and ended the season 18-2.
Tyler Lopez started the game for Century 21. He loaded the bases in the top of the first highlighted by a single by Alex Turelli and a double by Noah Gonzalez, before striking out the last two batters to get out of the inning. Century scored 1 in the bottom of the first highlighted by an RBI double by Lopez. Damian Hernandez also singled.
Lopez was able to retire the side in order in the top of the 2nd. Century put up 2 more in the bottom of the 2nd. Sean Reed scored on an error. Nicholas "Hollywood" Brennen and Derek Chaves hit back to back singles. Lopez drove in Hollywood and Chaves with his 2 RBI double.
Nico Baca led off the top of the 3rd with a single. Lopez then struck out the next batter, caught a liner from the next batter and caught a pop up on the next batter to retire the side. Dominic Van Orden singled to lead off the bottom of the 3rd and Dylan Zwier walked. Stellato's pitcher Alex Turelli was able to strike out the next two batters and get a pop up to end the inning. After 3 innings of play the score was Century 3 and Stellatos 0.
Dominic Infantes led off the top of the 4th with a single and was sacrificed on a bunt by Anthony Smith to second. Kris Estrada singled, but Century right fielder Miguel Cedeno was quick to get to the ball and get it back in to keep Infantes at third. Lopez was able to strikeout the next two batters to end the inning. In the bottom of the 4th, Century loaded the bases with a single by Lopez, walk to Mason Young and single by Van Orden. Stellatos pitcher Dominick Infantes was able to get out of the inning by striking out the next batter, stranding the bases loaded.
Lopez was approaching his pitch count limit in the top of the 5th, but was able to get a strikeout and 2 quick ground outs to get out of the 5th and still be able to come out to start the 6th inning. Century bats came alive in the bottom of the 5th. Reed led off with a walk and came around to score on single by Hollywood. Hollywood advanced to 2nd on an error and got to 3rd on a dropped pop up hit by Derek Chaves. Sam Signa hit a pop up that fell in which scored Reed and advanced Chaves to 3rd. Chaves scored on an RBI single by Lopez. Young singled to load the bases. Damian Hernandez walked in a run. Dylan Zwier singled in Lopez. Young was able to score on the play as well. After 5 innings Century had a 9-0 lead.
Lopez was able to pitch to the first two batters of the inning in the top of the 6th inning. They were the Infantes brothers. Both Dominic and Jude hit hard line drives that Century second baseman Derek Chaves dove and put glove on to prevent them from both being at least doubles. Sean Reed came into pitch for Century 21. Anthony Smith singled to load the bases. Kris Estrada tripled to drive in 3 runs. Reed struck out the next batter. Georgie Miller grounded out to score Estrada. Sam Signa made the play of the Century when he went back and made a diving catch on the pop up hit by by Baca.
It was a great 3 game series. Both teams left it all on the field. Congratulations to both teams who went from being the bottom 2 teams together, to being the middle 2 teams together to being the top 2 teams together. We look forward to seeing everyone come back next year.
